Aliens & Rainbows

If anyone saw me at City College on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Spoke~N~Heard's Poetry for Life event then you saw me wearing this eye shadow look. I love this look, it's very fun and vibrant. It's definitely not an every day look, but if you're looking for something bold and colorful, here it is.

To learn how to recreate this look on your eyes, click the link below for a step-by-step tutorial. :)

Note: An album of the same name by the artist Ferras inspired the title for this look. (Shown below)
Note 2: In the pictures my eyes vary from left to right due to the outcome of the photos. However, both eyes should match up and there shouldn’t be a difference.

Materials Used: You can use these materials or anything you have similar to them.

E.L.F 100 Eye Shadow Palette (This isn't all that necessary, but I used the deep blue/purple, you can use any deep purple eye shadow if you want)

NK HD Eye Shadow in #3001 (White)

NYX Eye Pencil in 913 Sapphire

Eyelash curler

Maybelline Volum’ Express the Colossal Mascara in Glam Black (Or any black mascara)

Step 1:
Prime your entire lid up to your brow bone and lower lash line with an eye shadow primer. It will dry invisibly. Primer will prevent your eye shadow from creasing and fading. Your look will last all day long. (This look lasted even through hours of being in a hot room. My eyelids were sweating, no joke and it looked the same as when I first put it on.) :)

Step 2:

Apply NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk #604 to your lid. With your finger in a patting motion blend upward until it reaches your brow bone. This acts s a slightly creamy base for your eyeshadow to stick to.

Step 3:

Take NYX Eye shadow in Yellow Funk onto your flat eye shadow brush and pat onto the inner corner of your eye about 1/3 of the way onto your lid and slightly above your crease. Pack on until you’ve reached your desired intensity.

Step 4:

Take NK HD Eye Shadow in #3027 (Orange) onto the other side of your flat eye shadow brush and pat onto the middle third of your lid next to where the Yellow Funk ends.

Step 5:

Sprinkle a little bit of NYX Ultra Pearl Mania in Orange Zest Pearl onto a tissue. This is a loose eye shadow and is very pigmented; a little goes a long way. Pick up some of the pigment onto the orange side of your flat eye shadow brush. Pat the pigment directly on top of the NK HD Eye shadow in #3027 (Orange).

Step 6:

Wipe off both sides of your flat eye shadow brush on a tissue.
Take your eye shadow blending brush and lightly sweep it from the Yellow Funk to the #3027/Orange Zest Pearl mix. This will blend the yellow into the orange. If you lose too much yellow, add some more and repeat blending. Wipe off your blending brush when you’re done.

Step 7: **This shadow is VERY pigmented, do not use too much**

Take NK HD Eye Shadow in #3039 (Hot Pink) onto the top edge of your flat eye shadow brush. Apply to the outer V of your eye.

Step 8:

Lightly sweep it in towards the orange with your eyes shadow brush until they connect. With your blending brush, very lightly sweep the orange towards the hot pink to blend the two. If you lose too much of any color, apply more and repeat blending. To soften the edges of the hot pink, sweep your blending brush back and forth over the edges.

Step 9:

Take NK HD Eye Shadow in #3031 (Purple) onto the tip of your small pencil brush. Apply it along the outer 1/3 of your lower lash line and bring it out so it lies underneath the hot pink shadow. Wipe off your pencil brush.

Step 10:

Take NK HD Eye Shadow in #3006 (Turquoise Blue) onto the tip of your small pencil brush. Apply it to the middle third of your lower lash line and meet it up with the purple, slightly overlapping so they blend together. Be careful not to get it in your eye, like I did. :( Wipe off your pencil brush.

Step 11:

Take NK HD Eye Shadow in #3022 (Green) onto the tip of your small pencil brush. Apply it to the inner 1/3 of your lower lash line slightly overlapping the turquoise blue to blend the two. Bring the green in so it lies underneath the yellow eye shadow. Wipe off your pencil brush.

Step 12:

Take the deep purple eye shadow you have onto the tip of your small pencil brush. Apply it directly on top of the purple on the outer 1/3 of your lower lash line to darken it up a bit.

Step 13:

Wipe off your blending brush and take NK HD Eye Shadow in #3001 (White) onto the brush. Apply it to your brown bone and lightly sweep it back and forth for a highlight. Take a bit more onto your bush and lightly sweep it down over the edge of the yellow/orange/pink blend to soften the edges and blend with the highlight.

Step 14:

Apply a thin line of NYX Eye Pencil in 913 Sapphire to your top lash line.

Step 15:

Curl your lashes with your eyelash curler and apply black mascara. The number of mascara coats used is dependent on your desired intensity. (Curling your lashes is optional)
Tip: Slightly tilting your head back while applying mascara will reduce the risk of getting the product on your lid, thus messing up the shadows.

Step 16:
If you have any fall out from the eye shadows under your eye and on your cheek, take a wet wipe and carefully wipe it away.

Your look should resemble this:

SUGGESTION: Apply a clear gloss to your lips. Your eyes are the ultimate bold with plenty of color so I don’t recommend any lip color. I used Victoria Secret’s Beauty Rush in Minty Lip Shine. I love the tingle. :)

** If you are curious as to what nail polish I’m wearing, it is Mint Cream by E.L.F**
